Millisecond burst extractions from synchrotrons using RF phase displacement acceleration

FLASH radiation therapy calls for the delivery of fast bursted spills particles with dose times order milliseconds. The requirements overlap fundamental physics experimental requests that are being studied at CERN, albeit very different energy scales. In this contribution, a scheme extracting millisecond bursts from synchrotrons is explored by controlling third-integer resonant and chromatic extraction RF phase displacement acceleration. would be implementable in existing medical synchrotron facilities. Using model CERN Proton Synchrotron, both single-burst multi-burst extractions simulated. Results show 80 - 90% total beam intensity extracted single burst 40 60 ms. This correspond to ~10 ms typical synchrotron, namely one outlined Ion Medical Machine Study. A set 3 consecutive 30 was simulated Synchrotron optimised machine parameters.
